Speak the Name
Jesus.
So often, I simply find myself crying out the name of Jesus. There are so many times I simply can’t find the words, but I know the name of Jesus has power. It has authority. It has peace. It is God with us.
These last few months, I’ve been presented with some difficult situations that have consumed my heart and mind. I try to pray, but often my mind quickly wanders back to a place of worry and anxiety. I know that’s not God’s best for me, and I try desperately to cast all my cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7).
The words to I Speak Jesus seem to be on an endless loop in my mind. If I can brag a little, when my daughter sings this song at church, you simply feel you are being ushered into His presence here on earth. The words flood my mind with a reminder that the name of Jesus is more powerful than anything we face here on earth.
As we walk through this song, I pray these words penetrate your hearts they have mine.

Peace. It’s what we all want and need. Freedom from anxiety. Freedom from fear. Jesus is our Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), We can speak the name of Jesus and invite His peace into our lives and our circumstances.

What hopeless circumstance are you facing? Do you have a prodigal child fighting the demon of addiction? Are you trapped in a battle with a sin that is holding you bondage? The name of Jesus has power over every chain that binds us. Just speak Jesus.

There is nothing more powerful than His name. What are you fighting right now? What is causing you hurt? Sorrow? Are you grieving a loss? Are you striving in prayer for a prodigal child? Are you facing illness? Where do you need to see God’s hand?
Oh, how many times I have uttered the name of Jesus in desperation! And we can be thankful He knows our hearts and sits at the right hand of the throne of God making intercession on our behalf (Romans 8:26). Just as we pray for healing, pray for circumstances to change, so is the Holy Spirit crying out on our behalf.

The name of Jesus is greater than any captivity, any depression, and anxiety. He wants us to fix our thoughts on Him so He can keep us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).

Jesus, your name is power! Jesus, your name is healing! Jesus, your name is life! You are my life! Break the strongholds in my life, in the lives of those I love! Shine into our hearts and set our hearts on fire for you!

There might be no phrase in the entire song that means more to me than the line that simply says, “[Speak] Jesus for my family.” How many times in recent days have I simply cried out, “Jesus for my family!” You see, that’s all my family needs. They need the name of Jesus spoken over them. They need Jesus flooding their hearts and minds with His love and peace. I speak Jesus for my family every single day.

My word for this year is miracles. I don’t know why God has laid this word on my heart, but I firmly believe God is able. Just as He parted the Red Sea and brought the dead back to life, He is still working in our midst. I know He is able to do far more than we could ever ask, hope, or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). His promises are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). He is faithful, my friends. Even when it seems He is silent, He is still working in our midst.

Oh, my Jesus! I speak your name today! Thank you for reminding me of the power in your name. I speak Jesus for my family. I speak Jesus for my friends. I speak Jesus for those suffering with depression and anxiety. I speak Jesus for those battling addictions. I speak Jesus for every soul in need of a Savior. I speak Jesus today, asking for the power of His name to flood our lives today. I speak Jesus over every soul reading these words, asking for the Prince of Peace to pour out His peace that surpasses all understanding today.
